3801 - Prepare and sling complex loads for crane operations - Level 4, Credits 25
Prerequisites
Unit Standard 3789 - Sling varied regular loads and safely direct a crane during crane operations.
Description
Once a person has achieved the Basic Slinging Loads & Dogman, the next step is Complex Loads.
This is the more technical of the 3 disciplines & focuses on the planning of a complex loads.
The characteristics of a complex load are as follows:
Irregularly shaped
Unequal weight distribution
Heavy or large loads
Loads that are offset or high centre of gravity
Lifts on the blind
Loads containing hazardous materials
Loads that are submerged or partially submerged
The lifting of personnel
Any lift that exceeds 80% of the crane(s) & lifting equipment's rated capacity and
Any lift that requires multiple cranes, hooks or winches
If you or your team are involved with lifting loads that have any of the characteristics above, this is the course for you.
Course Objectives
Once you've successfully completed the course, the attendee will be able to:
Prepare and sling complex loads for crane operations.
Important note: All unit standards are awarded by EarnLearn-Te Pukenga.
Other Requirements
Crane & lifting equipment must be certified when carrying out the practical components of the assessment.
Multiple objects to lift for the practical components of the assessment.
All students need to provide photo identification, either drivers licence or passport on the day.
A room big enough for all the students to sit & do the written part of the assessment.
If you could provide either a whiteboard or a clear wall that can be projected onto for the course presentation, this will be a huge help for your team & their assessments.
Your team will have to provide up to 3 lift plans filled out prior to the course.
